Sunday morning we left Sedona to head back home and decided to stop by Montezuma's Castle in Camp Verde with Grandpa W. Montezuma's Castle is a cliff dwelling that the Sinagua Indians built and lived in several hundred years ago. The Sinigua were farmers who built this 5 story, 20 room dwelling in the cliffs early in the 1100's. We had fun marveling at how the Indians lived and climbed up to the dwelling.
My little wall walker... right before he fell off and bumped his head. He had quite the goose egg on the back of his head.
The nearby river the Indians used
Ewan tracing the picture depicting how the Indians climbed up to the dwelling.
After we left... we stopped by a little roadside stand were a Native American Indian man and woman were selling their wares. The man was making Indian fry bread and the woman was making bead work bracelets. In the excitement, Ewan ran up to me crying, "Mom... Mom... is that a REAL Indian?" Before I could answer... the woman said in a very calm, but matter of fact voice... "No. Real Indians live in India!" It was a little embarrassing... but Ewan is only four and doesn't yet know the history of the Native American peoples.
Eating the Fry Bread
I bought each of the kids a little seed bead ring from the roadside stand.
